Quick start information
What do I need to get started?
The installation will take about two minutes. In order to install LiveSafer, an Internet connection and an email address are needed. If you want to store your backup file on an external hard disk, this hard disk must be connected to your computer. At the end of the installation process, LiveSafer will automatically start with backing up your selected files. We suggest you do not use FAT formatted drives (like USB sticks) as a backup storage location. These drives are likely to fail after a power failure and if not correctly removed from the computer.
How do I get my backup?
After installation it is always possible to change your backup settings using the LiveSafer Backup Centre. You can start the Backup Centre via the Start menu in the section “Programs”. In the Backup Centre you can:
- Find information on your software license
- Search for files in your backup
- Get access to your backup files
- Storage device status information
- Change your file selection
When will the backup be made?
As soon as the files, file types and /or folders are selected for backup, the backup process will start when the back-up storage location is available (direct via USB or via the Internet). Turning off your computer or losing your Internet connection will not mess up the way LiveSafer works. LiveSafer will “remember” the last backup status and will continue its work as soon as the connection with the backup storage location is available, without restarting a program.
Backup status
Without starting a program you are aware of the status of your backup. Files that have been selected for backup have a coloured marker. The meaning of this marker is as follows:
Red: Not backed up yet,
Orange: Last version not backed up yet,
Green: backup OK. The coloured markers can be turned on and off in the LiveSafer Backup Centre.
How do I restoring files from my backup to a computer?
Go to LiveSafer Backup Centre and select File backup restore, backup management. If you accidentally deleted a file from your computer or you need a previous version of a file, look in section Backup earlier versions and deleted files. The lost file can be found in the list of all available files or in the original folder structure at your computer. If you have found the file your were looking for, you can copy the backup file to the desired location on your computer by Drag & Drop or Copy & Paste, just like you are used to do using Windows.
Where are the earlier versions of a file?
Right click the the name or icon with the mouse and select the LiveSafer option from the drop box. Here you will find the LiveSafer status of this file and a list of all earlier versions of this file, if available. You can directly restore these versions by Drag&Drop or Copy&Paste to the desired location on your computer.
How can I add not selected files or File types directly to my backup or remove them?
Select the file, click the right mouse button, and select the “LiveSafer” option. In one overview you can see the LiveSafer status of the selected file and the earlier versions of this file. You can select this individual file to be backed up or all files on your system with this file extension. A marker is added to the le icon, indicating the backup status of the file. The file is backed up when the indicator is green. You don’t need to start a program: LiveSafer will backup the file automatically if the backup storage location is available. You can only remove a file from the backup if the file is not selected for backup. To remove a file from the backup go to the LiveSafer Backup Centre and select “Earlier versions and removed files”. Select the file you wish to delete and press the “Del” button. The file is permanently removed. It is not possible to delete a file without using the password.
How can I increase my backup security?
If you want the highest level of backup protection, you can connect your backup storage hard disk to another computer running LiveSafer and connected to the Internet. You can create your own “on line” backup environment by relocating your external hard disk to another location. LiveSafer will automatically “find” the new location of your backup storage hard disk and will securely continue the backup process. There is no additional setup procedure to make this work, LiveSafer will do this for you. In case of a fire or theft, this setup will give you the maximum file security because original file and backup file can be physically placed apart from each other.
How can I continue using LiveSafer Unlimited?
In the LiveSafer Backup Centre, you can find all license information. Choose the menu option “License information” in your Backup Centre. You will be directed to the secure license page where you will find all necessary license information..

Frequently asked questions:
My PC has been stolen. What do I need to do?
Download the LiveSafer software from the www.neverloseafile.com to the replacement PC. When installing, chose the "recover" option. Make sure that you have your registration Email and password available and within minutes you will have access to your backup.
Do other users on this computer have access to by backup files?
No, other users will only see their own backup files. LiveSafer uses the Windows user security rules. Only the user with the administrative rights on this computer can access all the backup files.
Does LiveSafer have a backup limit?
There are no limits to file size or total backup size. The backup size depends on the backup capacity available on the storage location. Remember: If you have large files to backup it will take time before this file is backed up, over the Internet. The amount of time it takes to make a backup depends strongly on the speed of your Internet connection.
How Can I make a backup of an external USB hard disk?
When you connect an external hard disk, LiveSafer will ask you what you want to backup from this disk. You will be presented tree options: 1. Do not backup the files on this disk, 2. Backup all files on this disk, 3. Backup the files on this disk that are within my selection criteria. LiveSafer will remember your choice and will not ask you this question if you reconnect this same disk. You can "reset" your choice by right click the disk with your mouse and select "LiveSafer". Connecting and disconnecting the external hard disk will not influence the way LiveSafer works.
Does LiveSafer work on a MAC or on Linux?
This liveSafer version works with Windows 7, Vista and XP service pack 2.
How can I help a friend?
With LiveSafer Unlimited file backup it is possible to make use of the not used hard disk capacity of another computer for the storage of your backup files.
- Make the first LiveSafer backup to a locally connected movable storage device or to your local hard disk and use the “move backup data to another storage device” function in the LiveSafer Backup Centre to move the backup files to a transportable storage device. Making your first backup this way is 100 times faster compared to backing up via the Internet.
- Disconnect your transportable device and move the device to a location of a friend who is also using LiveSafer. Connect the device to the friend computer and you backup will be made via the Internet connection between your computer and your friend’s computer.
tip: It is also possible to move the backup files from the portable device to the hard disk of your friend, and move your friend’s backup files to the hard disk and connect this hard disk to your computer.
I have no fixed IP address is that a problem?
LiveSafer does not see this as a problem, because even if you have a laptop and always on the go, you can always continue to make backups. The liveSafer connection mechanism automates your connection to the backup storage location once you have access to the Internet.
How can I clean up my backup?
By selecting fewer files for your backup the no longer selected backup files will be placed in the backup list previous versions and deleted files. In the back Centre you'll find the Backup. If you then choose to display the List Backup previous versions and deleted files you can delete files easily. This list can be sorted by clicking Status. You can then delete groups of backup files. Cleanup can be done by selecting a single file or a group of files from the Backup previous versions and deleted files and then remove it using the delete option in Windows.
Which files and directories are NOT backed up by LiveSafer?
There are a few special directories and file types used by Windows that are NOT backed up by LiveSafer: System Volume Information, Temporary Internet Files, RECYCLER, Cookies and the TEMP folder. Files that start with $, ~ or end with .tmp or .lnk are also excluded. This means that if you rename a folder by "TEMP", all files in this folder are excluded from backup. If you use the Selection Wizard for file selection, also "hidden" directories are standard excluded. You can select these directories by using the manual (right click with the mouse) or "expert use" selection options.
When do I need my password?
You need your password if you want to restore files from your backup to the PC. You also need your password if you want to delete files from the backup or if you want to have access to your backup files from another computer by reinstalling LiveSafer. LiveSafer will "remember" your password during your Windows session. The password is not stored on the PC and will never be communicated via the Internet. If you lose your password, you will have to reinstall LiveSafer. Even employees of LiveSafer cannot help you when you lost your password.
